Los Nevados (snow-capped mountains) in the coffee region are ideal locations to conquer the Andes peaks. Rock climbing is practiced just outside of Bogota and in Guatape where the World’s tallest monolith (El Peñol Rock) emerges amidst a 100 square kilometer dam. Diving and snorkeling is mostly practiced in the Rosario Islands near Cartagena and in San Andres and Providencia Islands which offer crystal-clear waters and large coral reefs. The abundance of rivers in Colombia make canoeing very popular sports, mostly practiced in the rapids of the Rio Negro and Chicamocha rivers located northeast of Bogota.
